| Since 2006, Sharon has been collaborating with her husband, the comedian Aaron Freeman, on cartoons and comics, as well as Shabbat dinners. Their menus, including Sharon's famous challah, are themed to the Torah portion each week. The Comic Torah, a web comic based on the weekly Torah portion, has been her full-time project for 3 years. In this re-imagining, YHWH is an ill-tempered green skinned female, who looks a lot like Sharon, and Moses is her African-American sweetie, who looks a lot like Aaron. A romantic comedy ensues, in which Moses uses YA's concern for her reputation to modulate her genocidal tendencies and make Her a better god. Ben Yehudah Press, a publisher of diverse Jewish voices, is using Kickstarter.com to fund a book version of the comic. Previous projects include a book, How to Say, "I Love You!" in 30 Languages; political cartoons for The Huffington Post, and entries in the Israeli Anti-Semitic Cartoon Contest. Sharon's first cartoon was included in Art Spiegelman's article on the Mohammed cartoons in Harper's Magazine, June 2006, Drawing Blood. Sharon taught painting and printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1996-2006. She has a MFA in painting from SAIC and a BFAin painting from Indiana University. She also studied at the Arts Student's League in New York. |
